Self Portrait-ing

Our first project of the year is a self portrait. I've been reflecting a lot lately, and have decided that something critically important about me as a person is that my cheeks/face get rosy far too often. It's not that I'm embarrassed, angry, or hot. My face has simply been pink most of my life.

Like this! :

So I'm definitely going to use this factoid about me in my portrait.

Bleedy Fingers

This summer, I took a Fashion Merchandising course in San Francisco. Our final project was to design and market a product. I chose to create a leather camera bag made entirely from an old leather bomber jacket I got at the Goodwill Bins for $2.40. The jacket had a satin-y lining with a map print on it, and the bag was designed for the saavy traveler who found the black nylon bags that many carry their nice cameras in ugly. Anyways, my mommy mailed me the coat then I went to Walgreens to buy a sewing kit for $5 because I left all of my sewing things at home. It was a sunny afternoon, so I sat on the pavement at Union Square for 4 hours. I cut up the coat, measured out pattern pieces so they'd all fit together, then sewed it! It was quite fun, except for the fact that I was hand-sewing through two layers of leather. Hence, the title of this post. I was happy with the result though!

BOOOOOOM

Booooooom.com is probably my favorite website. I like the fact that it features the artist rather than a singular piece or work with the artist's name in fine print below. It makes it all more personal. The photography, film, and art are all superb. With every artist featured, their website is listed, which is nice.
One of the artists that really struck my attention was Jose Rivas. The way he uses color is more than spectacular.I feel that these images inspire me to dust off the ol' box of colored chalk and be a little more experimental with color where it might not naturally be found.

Here We Go...

Well, they year has begun! I'm looking forward to making this blog fat and juicy with the art that I will be working on as well as with other art that I like. Hooray.
